Compare the Philips Airfryer to Breville Halo Fryer

The Breville Halo Fryer is a very innovative cooker for frying chips, meat, chicken and many other ingredients.

It differs from the Philips Airfryer in that the heat is produced by a Halogen lamp and it has a rotating paddle, so cooking is completely hands off, you just leave it to get on with it!

In practice though the rotating paddle did occasionally either get stuck or started to mash up my potato wedges or chips.  This seemed to be more likely if the chips were cut from potato freshly, than with the frozen pre packed kind. Nevertheless, by simply taking out the paddle mechanism, and stirring manually during cooking, the Halo did produce excellent results.

One excellent feature is the lid is see-through so you can check exactly what is happening inside without stopping the cooking or opening the lid. As the heater is Halogen powered , it reached operating temperature very quickly and so there is no pre heating time required. An added advantage is think how much energy you save over a year, not having to preheat the oven.

One thing I did notice whilst trying out the Breville was the cool outside surface, the insulation of the main unit was as good as the Philips in this respect, a problem with the traditional glass bowl design of the Halogen cookers like the JML on tv, is that it is so easy to burn your hands on it. This layer of insulation is also probably helping NOT to heat up your kitchen and reach cooking temperature even quicker than the versatile Halogen ovens. Lastly , the Breville IS a large unit so be sure to measure up before purchasing and the new model , the Halo Plus is going to be bigger still especially the height, so make certain it will fit under the kitchen cupboards.

Overall I thought the Breville Halo was a well built innovative product, I’m not sure if the paddle was a good idea, but it certainly works without it. The Halogen lamps do have a shorter life than the element type heater in the Philips AirFryers so take that into consideration.

What did buyers of the Breville Halo Cooker say…

Great product.Bought this as got sick of replacing the lid on my tefal actifry.Seems much better made and cooks food very well

Excellent product! We were initially after a deep fat fryer but after looking into it, we decided to spend a little more and we have already had our money’s worth! We have enjoyed a range of meals cooked from this, including meatballs, pasta sauce and chips.

It’s years since I’ve had a fryer and I was really looking forward to eating home-cooked chips and I wasn’t disappointed – they were lovely.
